Passengers flying home who were scheduled for flights at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Saturday, October 15 were surprised when airport authorities told them to get rid of their Note 7 smartphones. The phones, which were manufactured by Samsung, needed to be left behind before passengers were allowed to board.

Phoenix Sky Harbor spokesman Greg Roybal said that passengers can consult their information desks for help when it comes to shipping their Samsung Note 7 smartphones. This move is in accordance with the United States Department of Transportation’s ban on Samsung Note 7 smartphones on any aircraft flying within, to, or from the country. There are reports that they have been exploding, with Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx saying, “We recognize that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority.”
