A pedestrian accident that transpired around 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 near College Avenue and Ray Road in Chandler, Arizona claimed the life of 35-year-old Chandler resident Pamela Hesselbacher. The accident, which occurred in Maricopa County, also caused injuries to two children.

According to the Chandler Police Department, Hesselbacher and her two children – a two-year-old and a three-year-old – were walking along Ray Road in the crosswalk when they were hit by a vehicle driven by 39-year-old William Joseph Epperlein. The children were inside strollers and bikes when the accident happened. Hesselbacher and her children were transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention for their critical injuries. Hesselbacher succumbed to her mortal injuries there.

Epperlein was charged with causing death by use of a car while driving on a suspended license. Police investigators are trying to assess if he ran a red light, with Lieutenant Scott Veach saying, “Preliminary information indicates that they had the walk sign and that the light was red when the driver came through. We are still sorting that out through witnesses, but the first two witnesses we talked to confirm that.”
